Online marketing and social media have become more important than ever in engaging the public with museum collections. I believe it is important for museums to be present online, as this is becoming the platform for social discussion and interaction. An engaged museum can learn more about its audience’s needs and interests by participating in an open forum. Online marketing also provides museums with a cheap advertising medium to showcase objects and attract new visitors who would not have normally been reached through more expensive traditional marketing.
